The duo has received this prestigious musical award after having reached the 50-year mark of their artistic career.
Los del Río were recognized by the Ondas Award, a musical award for their history as musicians, on the year of the 50th anniversary of their musical career. A nice reward after a lifetime dedicated to music, starting from the moment they first performed on stage in 1962.
They were 14 years old then and they wanted to try their luck by participating in program, 'Ronda del Domingo', on Radio Sevilla on the SER station. From that moment on, the contracts from the best of the best started rolling in for the Dos Hermanas duo, going on to become a reference in Spanish music, and to succeed internationally all around the world.
Throughout these past 50 years, Los del Río have recorded more than thirty albums, sold more than 15 million copies, and now have 250 gold records and 120 platinum records to show for it.
It's the third Ondas Award that Antonio Romero and Rafael Ruiz have received. “It's the icing on the cake after a lifetime of work and effort”, remarked the two singers from Dos Hermanas, Spain, who very excited upon hearing the news.
Los del Río will receive the Ondas Award for Music together with Joan Manuel Serrat, who also celebrated his 50th anniversary this year. Other artists were also included in the concession of awards such as Malú (award for artist of the year), Lang Lang (special mention by the judge panel) and Primavera Sound as best musical performance.
The awards ceremony of the 61st edition of the Ondas Awards will take place on November 25th in the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona.
